Established in 2022 with a grant from the Ministry of Industry and Technology under the Thrace Development Agency’s (TRAKYAKA) Social Development Support Program, the GastroAcademy Training Kitchen continues to play a vital role in developing the region’s culinary workforce.
The academy, which provides the gastronomy sector with skilled professionals and supports employment, is now preparing to extend its work internationally.
As part of this initiative, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ETSO) and the Burgas Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bulgaria during a meeting held in Edirne. Under the agreement, around thirty trainees will have the opportunity to work seasonally in Burgas, Bulgaria, after completing their vocational courses.
‘Training comes with guaranteed employment’
ETSO Chair Sezai Irmak said the protocol would create employment opportunities for young people seeking seasonal work in Bulgaria.
“Young participants who complete training programs in cooking, assistant cookery, hospitality, and waiting services will be offered positions in hotels and restaurants in Burgas. This training program comes with a job guarantee,” Irmak stated.
He added that the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Edirne would facilitate visa procedures.
“This collaboration will not only provide participants with valuable international work experience but will also strengthen economic, cultural, and social relations between our region and Burgas,” he said.
Burgas Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Todor Demirkov welcomed the agreement, expressing hope that “the cooperation will begin as soon as possible for the benefit of both cities.”
‘Bulgaria is our neighbor and a key tourism partner’
TRAKYAKA Secretary-General Mahmut Şahin said the agency continues to focus on promoting Thrace’s gastronomic richness and supporting workforce development.
“We are working to train technical personnel and create employment opportunities. Edirne is a key city in terms of tourism and gastronomy. It was essential to ensure that staff working in hotels and restaurants are properly qualified,” Şahin noted.
“Bulgaria is our neighbor, and Burgas is an important tourism destination. This protocol will help improve the quality of services provided to tourists on both sides of the border,” he added.
Bulgarian Consul General in Edirne Radoslava Kafeciyska emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation, describing the protocol as “highly valuable for Bulgaria as well.”
The training program will begin in January and conclude in March, with successful participants expected to start working in hotels and restaurants in Burgas in May.
