According to Haberbg.net, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) has announced that the country will return to the Eurovision Song Contest after a three-year absence.
Bulgaria will take part in the 70th edition of the competition, scheduled for 2026. The country last participated in 2022 with the band Intelligent Music Project and their song “Intention.”
BNT stated that Bulgaria’s return is a key part of its new strategy to promote Bulgarian culture, music, and artists on the international stage.
BNT Director General Emil Koshlukov emphasized the cultural importance of the decision, saying:
“Eurovision is a platform where cultures meet and stories are shared. At BNT, we are proud to support our talented artists and to give Bulgaria the opportunity to once again stand before millions of viewers worldwide.”
Eurovision Executive Supervisor Martin Green welcomed Bulgaria’s comeback, noting:
“We are delighted to see BNT rejoin the Eurovision family. This return reflects the unifying power of music and the contest’s enduring global appeal.”
Preparations are already underway to select the artist and song that will represent Bulgaria in 2026. BNT said that details regarding the selection process and participation format will be announced in the coming months.
Vienna to host Eurovision 2026
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be held in Vienna, Austria, with the semi-finals scheduled for 12 and 14 May, and the grand final on 16 May 2026. Austria earned the right to host after Austrian artist JJ won last year’s competition with “Wasted Love.”
This will mark Vienna’s third time hosting the event, following previous editions in 1967 and 2015.
Bulgaria’s best Eurovision result came in 2017
Since its debut in 2005, Bulgaria’s best Eurovision performance remains its second-place finish in 2017. Representing the country in Kyiv, Kristian Kostov captured Europe’s attention with his song “Beautiful Mess.”
