The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that, effective 7 October 2025, holders of regular Bulgarian passports will be permitted to enter and stay in the Republic of South Africa for short-term visits of up to 90 days without a visa.
The Ministry emphasized that the visa-free arrangement does not apply to travel for study, employment, business management or registration, medical treatment, or other activities outlined in Sections 13–24 of the South African Immigration Act.
This policy reflects the strong bilateral relations between Bulgaria and South Africa and is expected to enhance people-to-people contacts, promote tourism, and facilitate business exchanges between the two countries.
Currently, Bulgarian citizens enjoy visa-free access for short-term travel to over 170 countries worldwide.
