Genoveva Tisheva Elected Member of UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women



Genoveva Tisheva has been elected member of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the Foreign Ministry said Friday
Tisheva ranked fourth in the run-up for 12 positions. Tisheva received 148 votes, while election to the committee requires 93.

Tisheva graduated in law from Sofia University and specialized in Strasbourg, The Hague and Turin. She is fluent in four languages. She has many publications in the field of protection from violence and human rights. She was actively involved in drafting and campaigning for the adoption of the Protection against Domestic Violence Act (adopted in 2005), for special legislation on gender equality in Bulgaria (since 2000), and in the continuous reform of legislation on gender equality.
