
The Bulgarian national handball team will open 2026 with a crucial match against Türkiye as part of the preliminary round of qualification for the 2028 European Handball Championship.
Ahead of the fixture, the Bulgarian coaching staff has brought the squad into camp in Shumen. The training roster includes players competing abroad as well as athletes from leading clubs within Bulgaria. The team aims to take the court in Shumen with strong home support behind them.
The Bulgaria–Türkiye match will be played on January 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Shumen Arena, with free admission for spectators. The return leg between the two sides is scheduled for January 11 in the Turkish city of Ordu.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Turkish Handball Federation, Türkiye is continuing its preparations in Istanbul. The crescent-and-star team is set to play two friendly matches against Saudi Arabia today and tomorrow as part of its training camp. The Turkish squad will conclude its Istanbul camp on Monday, January 5, before traveling to Bulgaria.
